Girls U12 Major vs Kilcullen AFC: A Thrilling Encounter!
Match Report
The U12 Major girls team put in a brilliant performance against the odds away to Kilcullen on Sunday morning. Without a recognised goalkeeper, and against a home team with a big squad that allowed them to introduce fresh players regularly on a hot and humid day, the ten Naas girls held a 2-1 lead at the break.
All of this was even more impressive considering they conceded the opener almost straight from the kickoff. Special mention has to go to the four girls who volunteered for duties between the sticks. Aoibhinn, Alex, Alanna, and Ava all did brilliantly, saving shots and distributing intelligently during their 15-minute stints.
The opener for Naas came from an end-to-end move with Aoibhinn finding the net. The second came from tremendous Naas pressure which forced a Kilcullen defender into an own goal.
Naas, with only one substitute, tired slightly towards the end, but they never stopped battling and testing Kilcullen at the other end.
Two second-half goals sealed the deal for the hosts in the end, but Naas were desperately unlucky not to claim a draw.
Naas Team: Aoibhinn McNally, Yuna Cahill, Alex Brereton, Chloe OโBrien, Cora Morgan, Ava Hartigan, Alanna Leydon, Millie Mulhall, Layla Drewitt, Evie Dodd.
