Brilliant U12 Major Performance Leads Naas to Near Draw Against Kilcullen AFC!
In an intense showdown on Sunday morning, the U12 Major girls team of Naas showcased an outstanding performance against Kilcullen AFC, battling their way to a heart-pounding match that ended 3-2.
Amidst challenging circumstances, the Naas girls, bolstered by only ten players and no recognized goalkeeper, held a lead at halftime. The heat and humidity of the day loomed large as Kilcullen, with their larger squad, made tactical substitutions. Despite this, Naas stunned the crowd by going into the break 2-1 ahead.
What makes this victory even sweeter is the fact that Naas conceded an early goal almost immediately after the kickoff. Special credits go to the four girls who stepped up to the daunting task between the posts. Aoibhinn, Alex, Alanna, and Ava performed heroically, saving multiple shots and showcasing skillful distribution throughout their fifteen-minute stints.
Naas’ first goal was the result of an exhilarating end-to-end move, culminating in Aoibhinn finding the net. Following that, pressure by Naas forced a Kilcullen defender into an unfortunate own goal, further tilting the momentum.
As the game progressed, Naas became visibly fatigued due to their limited substitutes, but they kept pushing hard, relentlessly testing the Kilcullen defense. Unfortunately, two second-half goals for Kilcullen sealed the match in their favor, leaving Naas desperately unlucky not to have earned a draw.
The Naas squad included Aoibhinn McNally, Yuna Cahill, Alex Brereton, Chloe OโBrien, Cora Morgan, Ava Hartigan, Alanna Leydon, Millie Mulhall, Layla Drewitt, and Evie Dodd.
