SPOT-KICK AGONY! NAAS HIT BY CLANE SICKENER AFTER FIRST-HALF PENALTY DRAMA
Football can be a cruel, unforgiving game! Naas AFC’s U14 Major 2 side served up a pulsating first-half masterclass at a blustery K Leisure, only to be struck down by a brutal second-half sucker-punch as Clane United escaped with a 4-1 victory.
The Blues flew out of the blocks with breathtaking intensity, slicing open four glorious chances before getting the breakthrough their swagger deserved. Tadhg O’Sullivan conjured up a moment of magic down the flank, and Luke Brianhart was on hand like a true poacher to fire Naas into a 1-0 lead.
With Clane reeling on the ropes, the golden opportunity arrived to double the advantage from the penalty spot. But the Clane goalkeeper pulled off an acrobatic fingertip save to keep his side alive.
That proved to be the cruel turning point. Clane scrambled an equaliser against the run of play right on the stroke of halftime, before ruthlessly punishing errors with deadly accuracy after the interval to steal all three points.
Make no mistake — for 35 minutes Naas played some of the finest football seen this season. Sharpen up that ruthless edge, and this talented squad will be blowing teams away in no time!
