CROSSBAR AGONY! NAAS BATTLERS FALL TO MOONE RAMPAGE DESPITE WONDER-STRIKES
Naas AFC’s U15 Major 1 stars were dealt a baptism of fire in their curtain-raiser away to league juggernauts Moone Celtic — but this eight-goal scoreline tells nowhere near the whole story of a brave and spirited battle!
The Blues almost produced the goal of the season inside the opening two minutes when Luke unleashed an audacious 30-yard thunderbolt that rattled the Moone crossbar with the keeper beaten all ends up.
That scare stung last year’s runners-up into gear, and Moone pounced with three clinical strikes on the counter to seize control.
Yet Naas refused to buckle. Composure was restored, and on the half-hour mark came a piece of pure footballing champagne: Frank clipped a sublime ball into the danger zone, and Davin brought it down like a seasoned pro before slotting into the bottom corner!
Naas had Moone rocking again after the interval. Davin released Frank who was hauled down, before Luke’s stinging free-kick drew a top-drawer save. Fionn F then burst through to win a stonewall spot-kick, and Frank stepped up with ice in his veins to dispatch an absolute rocket into the top corner!
At 5-2, the Blues were creating chances at will, but late legs and mental fatigue in the dying eight minutes allowed Moone to seal an 8-2 triumph.
It was a harsh lesson at this level, but with moments of top-class attacking quality and a standout masterclass from Player of the Match Davin, the future is bright!
