WIND-BLOWN BLUES FIGHT TO THE FINISH! BRAVE NAAS ROAR BACK IN ATHY AFTER FIRST-HALF STORM
Naas AFC’s U17 Major 1 warriors were blown off course by an opening-half tempest in Athy — but produced a ferocious second-half revival that proved this side has guts in abundance!
Battling into the teeth of a howling gale on a tricky, bumpy surface, the young Blues found themselves on the back foot against a clinical Athy Town outfit that ruthlessly punished every loose ball to build a daunting 4-0 interval lead.
Lesser teams would have thrown in the towel. Not this Naas side.
With captain Kyle leading from the front like an absolute colossus in midfield, the Blues tore out of the blocks for the second half with a suffocating, high-octane press that pinned Athy deep in their own territory.
The pressure told when Cameron pounced during an almighty goalmouth scramble, bravely forcing the ball over the line to ignite the Naas fightback! Minutes later, Cameron was inches away from a sensational second when his glancing header flashed agonisingly wide of the upright.
Throwing caution to the wind, Naas switched to a high-risk three-at-the-back system with Kyle sweeping up every Athy clearance with ferocious tackles and ice-cool distribution. The Blues completely shut out the hosts to take the second period 1-0, but ran out of clock to overturn the first-half deficit.
Heads held high, lads — the second-half heart, relentless fight, and captain’s masterclass from Kyle showed exactly what this team is made of. The points will come!
