GUTSY NAAS FIGHT TO THE WIRE BUT SUFFER HEARTBREAK AGAINST CLINICAL BOYS U16 (2011) MAJOR

A fiercely contested battle ended in heartbreak for Naas AFC’s Boys U17 (2010) Major 1 side as a clinical Boys U16 (2011) Major outfit snatched the spoils in an action-packed 2–1 clash under the Monday night lights.

With an earlier 7:00 p.m. kick-off compressing the pre-match warm-up to 45 minutes, Naas were caught cold in the opening exchanges. The match was played in three 25-minute periods, and the slow start was ruthlessly punished with two soft goals conceded early on.

However, after a tactical reshuffle and stern team talk at the first break, the Blues settled down and began playing far crisper football throughout the second third.

Trailing into the final period, coach Daniel delivered a stirring motivational rally, challenging the squad not to surrender bragging rights to the under-16s — and the response was nothing short of electric.

Naas roared out on the front foot, pressing high with ferocious intensity and pinning their opponents inside their own half. The pressure paid dividends with a sublime team goal: Tony won back possession with grit and slipped a neat pass to Oscar, who released Conor surging down the wing. Conor drove aggressively to the touchline before cutting back a pinpoint ball for Liban to rifle home with clinical precision.

The intensity remained white-hot right to the final whistle, with the closing stages resembling a full-blooded cup final. Ben had to be briefly withdrawn after a heavy knock, while Cameron bravely came off worst in a 50/50 challenge that unfortunately leaves him in a moon boot for a few days.

Ryan O’Rourke was a revelation throughout, putting in an outstanding performance as he pulled the strings in a central attacking midfield role. When the backline pressed up to the halfway line in unison with the forwards, Naas looked every inch a cohesive, dangerous football team.

That sensational final third is the blueprint going forward: unity, relentless passion, and playing as one complete unit from front to back. Heads held high, lads — the courage and quality on display prove this squad is primed to bounce back even stronger!
