Date: 21 Feb

First Half

A fiercely contested local derby in the Shield saw Naas AFC claim a convincing 3–1 victory over rivals Naas United, progressing to the next round with confidence soaring.

After losing the toss and facing into a strong wind in the opening half, Naas AFC showed their intent from the outset. The early pressure paid dividends when Rian White stepped up to drill a superb free kick past the goalkeeper following a foul on Antoni Karpierz 20 yards from goal. It was a statement of intent that set the tone for the afternoon.

Naas AFC’s relentless high press continued to cause problems. An interception in midfield sparked the second goal as Conor O’Shea threaded an incisive pass through the lines to release Conor Hogan. “Hogie” showed strength and composure to hold off his defender before firing emphatically into the top corner, doubling the lead inside the opening ten minutes.

Second Half

Further chances followed as Naas AFC dominated proceedings, but resolute defending from Naas United ensured the score remained 2–0 at the break.

The second half mirrored the first, with Naas AFC’s midfield and defence standing firm and controlling the tempo despite the blustery conditions. The third goal arrived after an excellent surging run down the wing from Luke Brynard, who delivered into a dangerous area. Will Jackson found space brilliantly and struck goalward; his effort cannoned off the post and, in an unfortunate twist for the Naas United goalkeeper, rebounded off him and into the net.

Naas United pulled one back from a soft free kick late on. Daniel O Conor who had little to do for much of the game, came agonisingly close to producing a stunning save, The pace on the strike just carried it beyond him.

Every Naas AFC player gave 100%, with Conor O’Shea particularly outstanding — seemingly everywhere across the pitch and instrumental in both attack and defence.

In challenging conditions, this was a fabulous derby win for Naas AFC. They march into the next round with tails up and confidence at an all-time high.
