Boys U16 (2010) Premier 1:2 Prosperous

Date: 17 Jan

First Half

Naas AFC U16s put in a dominant performance but were left frustrated as they fell to a 2–1 defeat against Prosperous, a game decided by fine margins and just two opposition chances.

Naas started the game on the front foot and were rewarded with a superb opening goal. The move began with captain James Collins, who set the tone early by winning a throw-in with a thunderous tackle. From there, Naas worked the ball well, and Max Galvin delivered a quality pass into the box. Evan Malone, showing great composure, struck a brilliant left-footed finish from 12 yards to give Naas a deserved lead.

The remainder of the first half was one-way traffic. Naas were camped in the Prosperous half, creating chance after chance and keeping constant pressure on the opposition defence. Despite the dominance, Prosperous equalised against the run of play when a long ball forward allowed their striker to score with their first real opportunity.

Second Half

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Naas again controlling possession and territory. Unfortunately, Prosperous struck once more from distance, a speculative shot from around 30 yards that deceived the Naas goalkeeper and found the net.

To their credit, Naas responded positively and continued to create opportunities. James Collins led by example all day, driving forward from midfield and coming agonisingly close when he burst into the box and struck the post. Max Galvin delivered a series of glorious corners, while Matthew McCarthy went close on multiple occasions. Daniel Oke and Jack O’Brien also had good chances as Naas racked up between 10 and 15 opportunities over the course of the game.

Ultimately, two denied Naas strong Prosperous centre halves who stood firm under sustained pressure. Despite the result, this was a that deserved far more than the scoreline reflected.
