Arklow Utd vs Boys U16 (2010) Premier

Date: 4 Jan

First Half

First game out after the winter break and the boys could not be faulted. 6 goals, none conceded away from home and some wonderful football played by the lads against a well organised Arklow United. The game was played a gem of a pitch, something Arklow should be very proud of- the quality pitch definitely worked to our advantage.

Naas started with 3-5-2 formation and went at the opponents from the start. Naas got off to a dream start and went one up after 3 minutes. Good work from Oisin Lynch who dispossessed Arklow defence and fed the ball to Aaron O Donnelll, who made a yard and fired a low drive from 12 yards. Naas continued to press and made it two after 7 minutes. Ben Harrington played a lovely ball into Evan Malone, who cut in from the right wide, left a defender for dead, Calmly slotted the ball in from 10 yards into the corner. Naas sensed blood at this stage and were completely on top and created 5-6 more chances, with the Arklow keeper making some brilliant stops on several occasions.. The Arklow rear-guard was beaten again after 15 minutes. Max Galvin wiped in a peach of a corner, Evan Malone ghosted into the 6 yard box to volley into the net, for his second of the day.

Naas continued to press and Adam Bracken and Ben Harrington continued to probe and start of attacks from midfield. The 4th arrived with 10 minutes left in the half, Adam Bracken strided forward from midfiield and found Max Galvin, on the edge of the box. Max shifted the ball to his left and hit one right off the laces., which beat the keeper despite her best efforts. A well deserved goal for Max, who gave the right back a hiding in the first half, with his skill, trickier and pace,

The defence and James Lennon in goal had very little to do, Fred Cowdell, Cormac Donegan and Matthew McCarthy marshalled things well and kept it tight at the back.

Second Half

Naas management wanted the team to maintain the levels for the second half and not drop their high standards. The lads did not let the managers down, Hit the 5th within the forst fove minutes of the re-start, with arguably the goal of the game. Arklow had a corner, it fell in the box, Ben Harrington got a block and it fell to Adam Bracken. Adam broke out of the box, and played a quick ball to Aaron O Donnell on the half way line, Aaron took a touch and played a peach of a ball through the 2 Arklow defenders, Oisin Lynch ran onto , with only the goalkeeper to beat. oisin made no mistake and followed the finish with a knee slide into the corner flag!!!! What a celebration.

The game slowed but Naas continued to move the ball quickly and played some lovely stuff throughout the half. Cian Leonard made some lvoely runs from midfield and created several more chances. the 6th anf final goal arrived. Ben Harrington made a break into the box and played a dangerous ball across the box, Fell to Evan malone, who coolly slotted the ball home for his HAT TRICK!!!

All 13 lads played extremely well – James in nets, Cormac, Tadgh, Fred and Matthew at the back. Adam, Cian, Ben and Oisin in mid. Aaron, James up top caused them problems all day/ Special mention to Max Galvin who was unplayable on the left, Our own Xavi, Evan Malone who bagged his first HAT TRICK!!!!!
