Match Report: Boys U12 Major 1 – 2 Naas United

23 May 2026

It was a clash that had everything: a controversial penalty, a red card, and a nail-biting finish that left the Naas faithful breathless. In a pulsating local derby that lived up to all the pre-match hype, Naas Utd ultimately walked away with the bragging rights, edging past Naas AFC 2-1 in a contest where the final scoreline barely tells half the story.

The deadlock was broken in highly contentious circumstances when a Utd strike clipped the arm of an AFC defender, leading to a penalty that put Utd 1-0 up. Just minutes later, a cruel deflection off a Naas AFC defender bamboozled the keeper, leaving the hosts reeling at 2-0.

To their credit, Naas AFC refused to roll over. Just before the halftime whistle, Matthew Walsh showcased his vision with a brilliant piece of play, setting up Bobby Piggott, who tapped home to drag his side back into the hunt.

The momentum appeared to be shifting as AFC ramped up the pressure looking for an equaliser. The game reached its boiling point roughly 15 minutes from time when Alex raced through on goal, only to be cynically hauled down by a desperate Utd defender resulting in a red card for the visitors.

Despite a frantic late onslaught, the AFC push simply wasn’t enough to breach the Utd rearguard again. A bitter pill to swallow after a performance that deserved at least a point, but that is the beauty and cruelty of the Naas derby.
