First Half

The forecast was for wet weather, the wish was for great football. Both were delivered in abundance

With rivalries put aside, the Blue and Green team treated those on the sideline to a thrilling Premier Division local derby. The game began with both teams getting on the ball and testing each other’s defensive lines. With the Greens starting to get on top and pass the ball around, a cross fell to Jamie Lillis to put his team 1-0 up, keeping up his record of scoring in every game.

The Blues pushed for an equaliser, with Finn Barrett and John McCoy always dangerous in attack. But the Greens, with Raphael Kehoe and Sean Browne driving things from midfield, went 2-0 up with Faniel Futson finding the net.

The Blues continued to press and create changes. The Greens held their advantage with stand in goalkeeper Alex Hackett pulling off a string of good saves. A certain coach, who felt he wasn’t ready to play in goal, now stands corrected! With the half coming to and end, an unlucky own goal gave Blues keeper Zach Rainbow no chance as the Green’s went in 3-0 up.

Second Half

The Blues started the second half pushing to get back into the game. Seamle Keating and Charlie McDaid were getting on the ball and creating chances. The Greens defended well with Shuayb Islam and Michael O’Connell defending admirably.

With the Blues pushing forward, Patrick Hanrahan and Cody Broe were trying to exploit gaps at the back for the Greens. They soon got their reward, with Cody making it 4-0. Second goals for both Faniel and Jamie soon put the Greens 6-0 up.

But the Blues were never going to give up and started to dominate the game. With an assist from Charlie, Freddie Finan soon hammered the ball into the top corner to get the Blues off the mark. Shortly after, Seamie was rewarded for his great play and won a penalty, which he calmly slotted home. And within the blink of an eye, Finn set up Cillian Byrne to make the score 6-3. The comeback was on.

But the Greens tightened up defensively and with Vlad Caracu pushing forward, won a corner. Having been a rock in the heart of the defense all day, Ben Reilly got on the end of the corner to make it 7-3.

The full time whistle brought handshakes and smiles. It wasn’t about the result today. Being the only club with two teams in the Prem division, both teams showed that the Naas AFC U10 group are in great shape.
