Boys U13 (2013) Premier 2:3 Kilcock Celtic

Date: 9 Apr

First Half

These two sides are getting very familiar having only just played each other two weeks ago when Kilcock took the points. They have also drawn each other in the KDUL Cup Quarter Finals.

Second Half

The game was played on a freshly cut pitch 1 in Naas Sports Centre on a perfect evening for football. Naas started well with crisp passing from Jamie Dunphy & Hin Ngo with good movement from Kellum Finnegan. Mikey Danu out wide, they had Kilcock under pressure from the start. Naas had most of the early possession and territory despite playing into the sun and a strong breeze. Even with Naas dominating Kilcock looked dangerous on the break at times. They managed to free their right winger who broke goalside of Max Kennedy before chipping neatly over Finn Dudley for 1-0 to Kilcock.

Just minutes later a strike from distance deceived the Naas keeper and from nowhere Naas were 2-0 down. Naas responded well though and from another Kian Shanaghy corner from the left the ball broke to Mikey Danu. Despite the Kilcock keepers best efforts the ball just crept over the line.

With the minimum between the teams at the break Naas were right in the game. Just 5 minutes into the second half though, a ball bounced on the edge of the Naas box. Kilcock’s midfielder volleyed home well for 3-1 and Naas had a mountain to climb.

The second half followed much the same pattern with Naas putting Kilcock under pressure without creating big chances. When Naas did get into threatening positions through Peter McBride, Adam Conroy, Frankie O’Leary and Kellum Finnegan they just failed to take them. With 3 minutes left to play, some beat play between Max Kennedy and Kian Shanaghy released Hin Ngo who ran through and finished to the net.

Kilcock managed the remaining minutes well while Naas tired and just couldn’t force an equaliser.

It feels like another good performance not gaining any points for the Naas lads. They will have a weekend off before another good weeks training and then hosting Castle Villa next weekend where they can hope for a change of luck.
