Boys U17 (2009) Major 3:5 Newbridge Town

Date: 28 Aug

First Half

We kicked off into the sun at 7pm on a wednesday evening. We started very well and created a nice few chances in the opening exchanges. Unfortunately, with around 20 minutes gone a chance fell to their striker and he put it away to make it 1 nil. We bounced back nicely and kept our heads.

Second Half

10 minutes before half time the ball fell to Drew Sinkey on the edge of the box, who slotted a lovely finish past the Newbridge keeper. We were set to go into the half time break at 1-1, Due to heavy pressure from the Newbridge attackers, we conceded a second just two minutes before the break.

After an inspiring team talk from Alan, we made our way out with our heads held high, full of confidence. the first 10 minutes of the second half were very cagey, but the game began to open up. Senan Quinn played a pass into Tadhg Keane in the box, who scored to make it 2-2. We then started to find our rhythm and create a few chances. shortly after the equaliser Conor Byrne played a beatiful pass over the top to Tadhg, who controlled and slipped between defenders, scoring a goal of pure class.

With 10 minutes to go we were 3-2 up and we just had to hold on. Unfortunately we conceded straight away, but the less said about that the better. After equalising, Newbridge pushed on and got a second in quick succession, leaving us 4-3 down in the closing stages. Just as the game as coming to an end, Ross Wheeler made a brilliant tackle to stop a sure goal which the ref gave as a penalty. Not a chance was it ever a penalty but sometimes decisions dont go your way. Newbridge converted the penalty and the game finished just after.

All said and done, it was a good performance and it was great to get a game before our opening league game on Saturday. Well done Lads.
