Boys U17 (2009) Premier 3:1 Kilcullen AFC

Date: 15 Nov

First Half

Naas AFC 3 – 1 Kilcullen

With the weather playing a huge role in today’s game, you might have expected a scrappy affair —. The conditions did nothing to slow down this relentless Naas AFC side.

The opening exchanges were frantic and end-to-end, with both teams struggling to settle. But once Naas found their rhythm, they took complete control. Wave after wave of pressure finally paid off when Ryan Murtagh opened the scoring, producing a sweet left-footed finish to give Naas a deserved 1–0 lead.

Despite dominating play, a brief lapse in concentration allowed Kilcullen to equalise with a clever long-range lob, levelling the game at 1–1.

Naas, however, had the perfect response.

Second Half

Just before the half-time whistle, Conor Fagan stepped up and produced a cool, composed finish — a well-placed low strike inside the far post — restoring Naas’ lead and sending them into the break 2–1 ahead.

The second half saw Naas reach another gear. Their intensity, control, and attacking fluency overwhelmed Kilcullen, who struggled to get out of their own half.

Chance after chance came, and eventually Naas secured the two-goal cushion their dominance deserved. A quick break opened the door for Sean Onwere, who calmly slotted home his second goal of the season to make it 3–1 and put Naas firmly in command.

From there, the boys showed maturity and composure — shutting out the noise from the away supporters, ignoring Kilcullen’s attempts to disrupt the flow, and letting their football do the talking.

Despite missing several players due to illness, Naas demonstrated the incredible strength in depth within this squad. Every player stepped up, every player put in a shift, and as the final whistle blew, Naas marched off as well-deserved 3–1 winners.

That victory sends Naas to the top of the table with just five league games to go.

A massive performance, a massive result — and a massive message to the rest of the league.
